Workday's agents
What counts?
Custom agents
People who use it times tasks per person.
What counts?
A task is one job the agent finishes, such as answering one employee's question. Each read or write it makes in Workday along the way is one call, for example looking up an employee's manager or creating a time-off request. Example: 4 calls per task × 10,000 tasks a month = 40,000 calls a month.
Outside agents
Ask the vendor for expected usage.
What counts?
A task is one job the agent finishes, such as answering one employee's question. Each read or write it makes in Workday along the way is one call, for example looking up an employee's manager or creating a time-off request. Example: 4 calls per task × 10,000 tasks a month = 40,000 calls a month.
Integrations
Syncs changes only, 999 records a page.
Pulls everything hourly, 100 records a page.
Compares the full list every 5 minutes, or calls once per record.
Platform Consumption Console > API Activity Report > Monthly API Trends. Add up 12 months. Leave out Workday's own unmodified integrations.
What counts?
One API call is one request to Workday: a page of results, a report run or a record written (our reading). Example: syncing 10,000 workers at 100 records a page = 100 calls; at 999 a page, 11.
Your estimate
180,000 credits to buy
Range: 60,000 to 540,000 credits to buy at 1 to 5 Self-Service Agent actions per employee a month.
About $18,000 a year at $0.10 a credit. At $0.01 a credit: $1,800.
Your 60,000 complimentary (free) credits last about 3 months at an even burn.

The meters
How agents use Flex Credits
The path an agent takes into Workday decides which meter applies.
Two free buckets: an API allowance counted in calls, and complimentary credits counted in credits. Only API calls get an allowance; agents use credits from the first unit.
How an agent reaches Workday
-
Workday's own agents
Priced per action or unit on the rate card.
-
Custom agents in Workday Extend
1 to 3 credits per invocation, plus their Agent-Ready Tool calls at 5 to 25 credits per 100.
-
Agents built elsewhere
- Through Workday's Agent-Ready Tools (MCP): 10 to 50 credits per 100 calls.
- Through Workday's APIs (REST, SOAP, RaaS or WQL), directly or through a connector such as StackOne's: draws on your API allowance first, then 0.6 credits per 100 calls (60 credits per 10,000).

For agents you build or buy, how they call Workday sets the bill
An agent that re-reads everything uses more calls and more tokens than it needs. These patterns are the usual cause:
- Full re-syncs where a change feed would do
- 100 records a page when 999 is allowed
- One call per record instead of one report run
- Full SOAP worker records sent into the model's context
- Retry loops that turn 4 calls into 10
Where StackOne fits
Agent calls through Workday's APIs share your yearly allowance with every integration. StackOne's Workday connector is built to help agents and integrations make fewer, lighter calls, so they use less of that allowance.
Agents that use StackOne's Workday connector call Workday's APIs, so their calls draw on your API allowance, not on Agent-Ready Tool credits.
